Community Involvement

  • Selig Real Estate, together with nine other Lower Hutt businesses were the major Business Partner sponsors of "The New Dowse" when it was upgraded and extended becoming one of New Zealand’s most innovative Art Galleries right here in Lower Hutt.
  • Both Directors of Selig Real Estate are members and have been Directors of two separate Hutt Valley Rotary Clubs and they and the staff at Selig have been involved in many Rotary Projects over the past 25 years.
  • Way back in 2002 Lorraine taught herself HTML and together with Selig’s admin staff produced the 1st “Live on line” Rotary District Governor’s newsletter at Selig’s cost.
  • In 2015 Hutt Valley Rotary presented Lorraine with a Sapphire Pin to be added to her Paul Harris Fellow Award which had been bestowed on her in 2002 being Rotary’s highest award for community service.
  • The most current Rotary fundraising initiative Selig’s directors and staff are involved in and sponsor is the popular annual “Hutt River Duck Race” which they encourage other Hutt Valley businesses to take part in.
  • Lorraine with Selig support steers the Hutt Valley Rotary project of building a history of the people and businesses that make up the Hutt Valley through their engraved insertion in the Community Pathway, outside The Dowse in the Civic Centre. The profits from this pathway provide financial support for Hutt Valley Rotary’s many initiatives in low decile primary schools as well as leadership, self development, cultural and academic programs for Hutt Valley Secondary Schools students,
  • In 2004 Lorraine set up a Reading assistance program in Epuni, Rata St and Pomare schools which continues to co-ordinate 40 volunteer reading tutors at these schools on a daily basis. Other Selig staff have volunteered as tutors in this program.
  • The Selig staff have collected for Plunket and Te Omanga Hospice over the past 15 years and been involved with other fund raising initiatives with these two organisations.
  • Selig’s have also sponsored Taita and Woburn Bowling Club’s annual tournament over a long period of time.
  • David Jones is Deputy Chair of Hutt City Council’s Central Ward Community Committee.
  • Our philosophy is that the people of the Hutt Valley have been great to us and we want to make an effort so the Valley is even better for them.
